Pastiche and Homage- Song: Eminem without me
This song
has tributes to many celebrities and artists such as: Moby, Elvis, Batman and
Robin Michael Jackson. As well as this Dr Dre is shown in the music video.
During the
video we are shown Eminem and Dr Dre as Batman and Robin who are sent to ‘save
the world’. The opening lines “Two
trailer park girls go round the outside” is taken from a square dance song
called “Buffalo Gals”. His references to other celebrities and artist are him
mostly criticizing them for criticizing him, we firstly see this when Eminem
says “Nobody listens to techno” in which he is referring to the artist Moby.
Furthermore he also mocks former vice-president Dick Cheney’s wife and she is
mentioned in the lyrics because she said that his music is “ Despicable,
horrible, dreadful, shameful and awful” and Eminem found the remarks offensive.
Eminem also compares himself to Elvis
in the song, noting that they both excelled in music styles dominated by black
musicians, he points out that many people who criticized him were fans of
Elvis. Eminem also samples Michael Jackson’s song:’ Billie Jean’ and Obie
Trice’s song ‘Rap name’. Lastly his mother is also included in the song when he
says “I just settled all my lawsuits; f*ck you Debbie” Debbie. His mum, sued
Eminem for 10 Million dollars for some of the lyrics in another one of Eminem’s
song called ‘My Name Is.
Parody- Song: Why you always lying
video
The song
‘why you always lying’ from Nicholas Fraser is a parody to the original song: next
- too close, although he does change the words to the original, he does use the
same instrumental and the lyrics also follow the same structure. The first outlet of this parody was a vine
showing the most popular line of the song “Why you always lying” and the
shortened clip was spread around the whole of social media like: Facebook,
Twitter, Vine, Instagram and more. The full video of the parody is broadcasted
on YouTube and it quickly gained popularity and has over five million views and
with even people copying the parody in different languages, whilst the original
has over nineteen million views.
Animation- Song: Styles P, What’s the problem
This song
doesn’t have an official video online, but the first video available takes use
of the game Grand Theft Auto 4’s animation and has just over four thousand
views , the video in itself doesn’t relate to the song besides the fact that it
is only played on one of the games radio-stations, so in a way it is kind of a
synergy as the video can promote the game and the fact that the song is in the
game means that it will gain more recognition as huge amount of people will be
able to listen to the song.
Synergy- Song: Eminem Survival ft. Liz Rodrigues.
This song
from Eminem is a synergy as it was released on the 8th October to
promote the game ‘Call of Duty Ghosts’. The music video shows mostly Eminem
with the promotion of the game in the background to show the trailer using a
projector, some of the shots show dogs and soldiers in their commanding
uniform. Furthermore in the actually game there is a map that helps to promote
Eminem as the outlet of the song is in a café, constantly playing his song
throughout the whole period that you play on that specific map. With the
collaboration of the game and the song it has reached over 102.6 Million Views.
